All Saints' and St Nicholas' Churches

Father Andrew Wilson leaves us

We said a sad fairwell to Andrew and Estelle (and Alexander too) as they leave St Nicks' and prepare to move all the way to Hackney where Andrew will be installed in January 2009.

Andrew and Estelle

Father Andrew, his wife Estelle, and baby Alexander said goodbye to the parish in September.   He celebrated his farewell mass at All Saints’ on the 14th, and at St Nicholas on the 21st.  Both were joyful occasions albeit tinged with a little sadness.

Andrew has served as Team Vicar for nine years, and has been the driving force in the re-opening and restoration of St Nicholas church which was closed in 1968.  It was used as a record warehouse for over thirty years and rededicated by Bishop John Sentamu, then Bishop of Stepney, in 2000.  He leaves a small but thriving community at St Nicks who have great plans for the future.

Goodbye to Andrew

Last mass

Both congregations are indebted to Andrew, and we wish him and his family every happiness as they prepare to move to their new parish of St John of Jerusalem in Hackney.
