Holy Week

What’s good about Good Friday? Strange that the day we remember Jesus being killed on a cross is called ‘good’. ‘Bad Friday’ or suffering Friday’ might be more understandable. After all, in churches throughout the world, services on that day will be encouraging worshippers to appreciate the sacrifices made by Jesus all those years  ago  - his arrest, trials, scourging and execution. It really is a solemn and moving day.

Perhaps the Eastern Orthodox church has the right idea: it calls the Friday before Easter ‘’Great Friday’’. Something truly remarkable happened that day  - Jesus, Gods Son, died for us on a cross so that we can share in the new eternal life God offers and experience the power of his love and victory over evil in our lives. That must be ‘’good’’!

If you have never taken part in our special services on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter morning, why not give them a try? They really do help us appreciate why, because of Good Friday, we can say -

Happy Easter
